A total of 159 units were supplied for consultant Dar Al Handasa development The Pearl-Qatar, a phased, mixed-use development comprising villas, town homes, apartments, penthouses, hotels, marinas, retail outlets and restaurants.

The Pearl-Qatar is a multibillion dollar, man-made island developed in an exclusive environment of reclaimed land, covering 400 hectares with 40 kilometers of coastline and 20 kilometers of pristine beaches. It is set to become the ‘Riviera Arabia’ by offering a lifestyle reminiscent of France and Italy in the heart of the Arabian Gulf.

Elta Ltd and sister company Fastlane Ventilation Equipment Ltd supplied the fans to contractor Power Line Engineering, Qatar, through regional distributor METCO, for use in various public areas. These included several food and beverage outlets in the central plaza and the major north-south boulevard, as well as the smoke management system for the mall area, where a network of smoke extract fans is integrated into an addressed fire alarm system. Both companies worked together to fulfill the order which included HIT, Compact SCP, Powerduct SPD, Multiflow SMB, Skyflow SSMF, Heritage SCHT along with long-cased (LC) and short-cased (SC) Axial fans for the retail and recreational areas, with Fastlane supplying BSB SISW centrifugal, belt-driven units for kitchen extract applications.

Elta’s Compact SCP is a durable and weatherproof, slim-profile, plate-mounted axial fan with efficient, lightweight motors offering all round performance and simple speed control.

Powerduct SPD is a range of robust, duct-mounted, square-cased, in-line centrifugal fans offering performance with low noise and suitable for a wide variety of applications.

Multiflow SMB is a range of square-cased, mixed-flow fans with adjustable-pitch, mixed-flow impeller, suited for extract or supply within ductwork.

Skyflow SSMF horizontal-discharge, mixed-flow, roof extract units offer a low-profile design, are UVstabilised, durable and long lasting.

Heritage SCHT range of roof-mounted centrifugal fans are designed to handle clean, grease laden or contaminated air and providing easy access for cleaning.

The SmokeVent SLCS range has been specifically developed for emergency extract systems to operate as part of the main extract system or as a dedicated, emergency clearance system to remove hazardous fire, smoke or fume conditions.

The Pearl is planned to be a unique living and cultural experience that integrates the best of the country’s past and present and is Qatar’s first luxury residential urban development venture that offers international investors freehold title ownership. The project developer is United Development Company (UDC), Qatar’s largest private sector shareholding company whose founders are among Qatar’s most successful investors and developers.

Located approximately 20 kilometers north of the downtown central business district of Doha and directly north of West Bay just off the shore of the Arabian Peninsula, it is on the site of a former pearl diving site. When fully developed, the island will house approximately 18,000 beachfront villas, elegant town homes, luxury apartments and exclusive penthouses, which will be home to up to approximately 41,000 residents. Current plans are for at least three 5-star hotels and there will be three marinas with mooring for approximately 1,000 boats. Extensive private and public moorage is planned and the island will have canals, lakes and interior navigable coves. The island will host a yacht club of world-class standing to cater to the international, regional and local yachting community. Approximately 2,000,000m2 of retail, leisure and restaurant space will again be targeted at the top end of the market. Locations have been identified for at least two schools and there will be several kindergarten and day care centers. The island will also have several public parks and accessible open spaces.

Elta is part of the £85 million Elta Group, a family of businesses with operations in six countries on four continents which, together with a network of international distributors, provides quality fans and related air movement equipment to customers worldwide.

Elta’s Breath Of Fresh Air For New Overground Station https://eltauk.com/blog/eltas-breath-of-fresh-air-for-new-overground-station/ https://eltauk.com/blog/eltas-breath-of-fresh-air-for-new-overground-station/#respond Fri, 05 Mar 2010 14:23:34 +0000 https://eltaecodev.wpengine.com/?p=2154 Elta has supplied four 1250mm, long-case (LC), ‘Run and Standby’ fans for the new Dalston Junction Railway Station, currently under construction in the London Borough of Hackney – as part of a fresh-air input system.

The LC Range is an extensive selection of robust, long-cased axial fans, fitted with adjustable-pitch, aerofoil-section, bladed impellers and offers performance with strength, durability and corrosion resistance.

The fans were produced in a collaborative project between the Fareham and Kingswinford manufacturing facilities of fan specialist Elta, for the pressurised ventilation system at the new station. Supplied and fitted by Elta’s Building Services division customer Advanced Smoke Technology Limited, experts in the design and installation of smoke control, extract and pressurisation systems, the units are mounted in pairs on purpose-built frames on the ceiling of the station building above the west and east stairwells. They are wired into the master control panel of a pressurisation system, which incorporates an automatic changeover facility should the duty fan fail to switch to ‘standby’ mode. In this way, constant ventilation and a positive pressure are maintained within the stairwells of the station.

Advanced Smoke’s spokesman, Brian Lockton commented: “We have had a good working relationship with Elta for some time now. This job involved various exacting stipulations because of the sensitivity of fire hazard in stations. We have always found that by working closely with them, we are able to overcome any technical difficulties with comparative ease.”

Finished in RAL 7001 matt grey to the specification of the customer (London Underground Limited – LUL), the units and accessories supplied meet the requirements of Section 2 Materials Approval as defined in the Fire Precautions Act and LUL Standard Fire Safety Performance of Materials Specification. The LUL requirement is associated with the paint finish of the units, which is specially formulated for areas requiring low smoke and low, toxic-fume emission. It is also graffiti resistant.

Specialised, electrical cabling within the fans from the motors to the external terminal boxes also complied with Section 12 of the LUL Specification – being heavy duty, enhanced oil-resisting, flame retardant with low smoke and zero halogen-gas emissions.

Main contractor for the Dalston Junction Railway Station project is Mansells Construction with engineering services supplied by Briggs & Forrester.

Although the original station closed over two decades ago on 27 June 1986, along with the railway line it served, the neighbourhood retains its name, with road signs and bus stops alike still referring to the area as ‘Dalston Junction’.

Located at the corner of Kingsland High Street and Dalston Lane, the station first opened on 1 November 1865 as part of an extension to Broad Street on the North London Line. Remains of the former station were cleared in early 2005 and the station is on schedule to re-open in May 2010 – initially as the temporary northern terminus on the Chelsea-Hackney Line route between Wimbledon and Epping, as part of the London Overground East London Line extension.

The new station is 250 metres from an existing station, Dalston Kingsland, but future railway maps will show the two stations as a single interchange.

Cattle at Sea Kept Comfortable by Elta https://eltauk.com/blog/cattle-at-sea-kept-comfortable-by-elta/ https://eltauk.com/blog/cattle-at-sea-kept-comfortable-by-elta/#respond Fri, 05 Mar 2010 00:00:00 +0000 https://eltaecodev.wpengine.com/blog/cattle-at-sea-kept-comfortable-by-elta-fans/ Fans from Elta Building Services Export Division are helping keep ventilation conditions on an even keel for livestock on board the Lebanese cargo ship F.M. Spiridon.

Forty long-cased, axial fans have been supplied by mechanical engineering specialist and Elta distributor, A. Z. Tec sarl, for fitting to the Beirut-based steamer operated by Lebanese ship-owner Mr. Ghassan El Murr. The vessel, which sails under the Lebanese flag, is used to transport animals (mostly cattle) to and from markets around the world.

The LC063, 5-bladed, axial fans supplied have a diameter of 630mm and are part of the extensive, robust range of long-cased, hardworking axial fans, fitted with adjustable-pitch, aerofoil-section, bladed impellers. They combine excellent performance with strength, durability and corrosion resistance and were specially supplied without casings from the Elta factory in Kingswinford in the UK, for the ventilation of livestock in transit. The client is constructing rugged housings, in heavy gauge stainless steel for mounting the fans on deck, close to the animal pens in order to maintain safe and suitable conditions.

The low-voltage motors were specially modified by suppliers WEG UK for protection against the heavy and powerful ingress of seawater (IP56) and supplied suitable for 400/3/50 operation (400 volts; three phase; 50 Hertz). Total power requirement was kept to a minimum by utilising Elta, axial impellers linked to an Efficiency 2, totally enclosed, fan-cooled (TEFC) motor.

It is Back to the Future at the V&A Museum with Elta https://eltauk.com/blog/it-is-back-to-the-future-at-the-va-museum-with-elta/ https://eltauk.com/blog/it-is-back-to-the-future-at-the-va-museum-with-elta/#respond Tue, 24 Nov 2009 00:00:00 +0000 https://eltaecodev.wpengine.com/blog/it-is-back-to-the-future-at-the-va-museum-with-elta-fans/ When the UK’s landmark Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum in London started a major refurbishment this year to bring it ‘into the 21st Century’, Elta were the obvious choice for a ventilation system which would combine modern technology with un-obtrusive design.

As part of the V&A’s ‘FuturePlan’ scheme, the Museum’s world renowned ceramics collection is being completely re-displayed in redesigned galleries using Elta, supplied by UK distributors SK Sales. Seven of the galleries are now open and a second phase of four further galleries open in June 2010. In the course of ‘FuturePlan’ the V&A has taken an innovative approach to using sustainable low energy solutions in the new galleries to achieve the highest possible quality environment for both visitors and the treasures on display.

The ventilation system was designed by consulting engineers, Norman Disney Young, the concept being to reinstate the original Victorian ventilation system when the galleries were first built, with the assistance of fans.

JSMS contractors specified using Elta Fan’s SCPP Axial Flow fan units to answer the design brief. Phase 1 of the refurbishment saw six such units fitted. Phase 2, which is still under construction, has so far seen a further six SCPP units installed.

The ceramics galleries house a collection ranging from the earliest Chinese pottery to contemporary ceramic art. The collection is unrivalled anywhere in the world and the refurbishment of the galleries aims to create the world’s leading centre for the study and appreciation of ceramics presented in state-of-the-art, beautiful displays.

The SCPP two stage Axial Flow fan is specifically developed for high pressure requirements, where regulation specifies more efficient filtration systems. The contra-rotating two-stage fans supply additional power to the unit, dramatically cutting the workload for the fan, providing economical, straight-forward ventilation. Elta have been manufacturing fans for more than 35 years now with a continuous investment in people, plant and machinery to produce modern development techniques for a fast, responsive and flexible approach to satisfy ever changing market conditions and energy efficiency needs.

The V&A is the world’s greatest museum of art and design with collections unrivalled in their scope and diversity. It was established to make works of art available to all and to inspire British designers and manufacturers. Today, the V&A’s collections which span over 2000 years of human creativity in virtually every medium and from many parts of the world, continue to intrigue, inspire and inform.
